About Rachel

Rachel Flanigan is a meditation teacher and facilitator based in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She teaches active, breath-based, practices for meeting everyday life with meditation. Currently, she is focused on teaching dream meditation practice, energy exchange breathing meditation practice, voice hearing conversations, and group facilitation. Rachel was raised in a feminist Pagan community at the Seneca Women's Encampment for a Future of Peace and Justice. She became a student of Buddhism in 1996 at the Sanjusangen-do Temple in Kyoto, Japan. Upon returning home, she began studying the writings of Trungpa Rinpoche, Dza Patrul Rinpoche, and Joseph Campbell. She has been fortunate to receive empowerment and teachings from great living Buddhist teachers, and focused her practice on Lojong Mind Training and the female Buddha Tara. In 2005, Rachel was certified to teach Tsa Lung Trul Khor, a Tibetan Buddhist breath and movement practice, by Lama Jigme Namgyal. Rachel is especially interested in making meditation instruction available to people who may be excluded from spiritual communities due to socio-economic class, gender expression, or psychiatric history. Rachel also facilitates voices and visions self-exploration groups as part of the Hearing Voices Movement. She has taught Economics at the graduate and undergraduate level at the University of Nevada. Rachel works as a consultant in applied microeconomics.
